DNA Database vs National IDs in the coming future

The fear of ID card’s fraud attacks is ever on increase and a desire for greater national security features especially for national security and immigration affairs have now prompted many states around the world to call for improvements in the National IDs processing, personal identification and as well presenting such those documents. The world of computer has garnered excellent platform with multiple possibilities for someone to forge your national identification card and passport document. Therefore a new model that containing another biodata like DNA is being seriously considered, globally.

Biometric IDs What’s biometrics? In a simple definition biometric term is constitutes of two words “Bio= life” “Metric= measurement” literally means measurable information on the body of a living entity like a human being. These include hair color, height, finger prints, iris, voice recognition, earlobe geometry hand signature, physical composure, facial recognition, DNA profile, palm geometry and nowadays computer key stroke dynamics of an individual is considered since computers have formed the integral foundation of our daily interactions. The hair color and height are not very useful information for an identification purposes because they change relatively quickly (hair color can altered by dye or get gray naturally when a person is aging; a person's height varies throughout the day due to the pressure exerts on the spine). The  fingerprint system the most common form of identification is also a biometric information. Fingerprint system is popularly used by police and security officials because it is believed that no two people have the same patterns in the ridges of their fingers and these patterns are relatively constant; they might change a little as a person gains or loses weight but the patterns remain recognizable. However, in the modern world of science and technology fingerprint system has now becomingly obsolete, fingerprint system has no more posses 100% credibility in match with modern tech and sooner or later fingerprint system itself will entirely belong to the stone age. Another good identification system which is a modern form of biometric information is DNA sequences. DNA is the biological code that present in every cell of human body. DNA is the molecule that describes each and every person uniqueness, like the way you look and your color, race, height and so forth. Thus Universal Biometric ID is next generation type of national identification which will render a complex documentation and security identification and verification [ more ]

ID Cards’ Forgery and Thefts

Probably almost everybody knows that an identity card is a piece of cardboard or plastic that is shown to security guards, police officers, immigration staff. Identification cards are issued by all manner of organizational controlling: Universities issue ID cards to their staff and students, government issue them to its citizens, companies issue them to their employees and personnel. Most of these identifying cards that we having contain some basic details such as names, a photograph of the person's face and a reference number that allows the card to be matched with a central record system, where information database is held by card issuer. Some of the cards are more sophisticated than other for containing magnetic strips or scanable bar-codes that decoded by machines to unlock entrances and doors so that the card acts like a key. A biometric identity card is similar to existing cards but they have extra enhanced biological information. The modification of national document is a cheaper process and forgery is very popular these days: The ongoing problems of human traffickings and the increase of criminal activities across national border required stricter measures to maintain border control and security. Recently, the terrorist group ISIS , Boko haram and other sleeper cell elements invite other ultra international terrorists worldwide to join them. So those ultra nationalists and radical fighters may use fake passports to reach European countries and operate in African countries as a safe house, in a hibernation mode for planing their strategic objectives and terror attacks. Over 80 countries now have ePassport  programs which then this affording biometric identification system for citizens and travelers to be easily implemented at point of entry or exit.  Nations like UAE, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and others have recently started considering an official mandatory of biometric enrollment of immigrants who are passing their borders. What makes biometric identification an attractive option for tighter border control security is that out of seven billion people on earth, no person have the same biological  traits such as fingerprints, facial patterns , DNA, iris patterns and etc. So biometric identification systems can identify people quickly and accurately than a manual checking of identity documents like passports and visas which is time consuming and can easily result in identification errors. The old border control systems are becoming vulnerable to terrorists, drug smugglers, human traffickers and illegal immigrants who have access to new technologies to fake or forge their identities. Conversely, biometric  information cannot be lost, forgotten, stolen, or forged. The DNA Database can facilitates biometric system unprecedentedly that would make it considerably more difficult for  terrorists and criminals in assuming false identities, they will not afford to forge a person’s national genetic identifier, no matter how they might tried. This’s unlike a conventional ID card which someone can impersonate another person and be identifying as real quinine owner, believe it or not this proposal idea, it is profitable for national security, coming the time when DNA profiles are fully digitalized into a virtual IDs and each person a lotted with his or her DNA National  Index Number (NIN) that stored/embedded in computer to matches physical and biological attributes of such a person taken from.
Screening people’s irises is just Step #1 toward the full package of Biometric Identification System and  this will include DNA. In  Afghanistan the local contingent of NATO forces are busy amassing  biometric dossiers on several Afghanis people from crooks, soldiers, insurgents and ordinary citizens. And now, with NATO’s backing the Kabul government in putting together a plan to issue biometric backed identification cards for several  million Afghans [ more ]
A Facial Recognition System is  a computer application capable of identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video in a central database. Facial recognition technology can pick someone's face out of crowded city, it even draw distinction between two faces of Monozygotic twins who have exactly identical faces from an obscured scene and suggesting appropriate name of a person. DNA Database will be stratified by some of  these add-on softwares and Apps like  Identix®,FaceIt® and among others tagging technologies [ more ]

Biotechnology has unleashed application  software ,machines and devices like the one on  the left called  MinION, which is a bio- sequencer and DNA reader that designed to identify human genetics very accurate. The devices is product of Oxford Technology (OT).  The goodness of Universal Biometric IDs is that a person no need to carry physically identity documents around for possible authentication and identification since the biological token will afford to link information to all multitude nodes and other myriad services to form a central network of information that done in a real-time. Advance biometric system will enhance good services at airports, border check-points and security access zones that monitoring a wide- range of crowded places.       [ more ] videos
